Zebras are not an animal normally found in Sherman County. But sometimes out of the ordinary appears. Madison Shambaugh, also known as Mustang Maddy, stopped at Slideoninn Horse Hotel west of Edson for a night. Shambaugh trains and gentles mustangs. The zebra came from a petting zoo in Indiana.
Terri Anderson, Slide on Inn’s owner, offers overnight or short-term stabling for travelers’ horses or full-time boarding. Everything at the horse hotel is set up for horses’ well-being. And the horses are always within easy reach of the owner. The facility offers porta-stall box stalls. Pipe runs open off each stall. “The horse can use the run or not,” Anderson said. She also has a round pen and a 150X300-foot slide-track arena.
Humans have creature comforts, too. The facility features two bunk rooms and RV hookups. Anderson says the horse hotel is full service, “except don’t expect breakfast!” Slideoninn is easily accesible from the Interstate. Take Highway 24 three miles west from Edson’s Exit 27 or six miles east of Goodland’s Exit 19. Mailing address is 2675 Highway 24, but don’t rely on your phone or GPS. Call 785-821-0199 ahead of time for directions. Find the horse hotel on Facebook.
