The High Plains Museum, 1717 Cherry, Goodland; Ennis-Handy House, 202 W. 13th; Carnegie Arts Center, 120 W. 12th; and the Santa Hut in the schoolhouse next to the museum will all be celebrating Christmas with open houses Dec. 1. The museum will hold their open house from 1-5 p.m., the Ennis-Handy House from 2-6 p.m., the Carnegie Arts Center from 3-5 p.m., and the Santa Hut from 3-6 p.m.
Open house activities
At the High Plains Museum and the Carnegie Arts Center families can make crafts and have some Christmas fun. While at these two institutions, families can create Victorian themed ornaments and take them to the Ennis-Handy House to help decorate one of their trees. At the Ennis-Handy House, with Victorian ornaments in hand, families can view the beauty of the house at Christmas time.
Santa Hut to be open for first time
Saturday will also be the first day the Santa Hut in the schoolhouse next to the museum will be open. Families can join Santa for an early 1900s Christmas. On their way to Santa, children can file in beside old-fashioned desks. The desks will be decorated with paper-wrapped boxes and bows. After their visit with Santa, children and parents will continue toward the exit. At the exit, they can pick up a goodie bag. The bags will represent a Christmas tradition from one of the many cultures that settled in Kansas during the early 1900s. In addition to their photo with Santa, a decorated sleigh near the front of the museum will offer another photographic moment for all to enjoy. The Santa Hut will be open Saturday and Sunday Dec. 1, 2 and 8, 9 from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday Dec. 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.by
